Cloth Diapering

We have finally decided to commit to cloth diapering.  This was something we wanted to do from the beginning, but Cooper decided to come a few weeks early and we never got around to ordering the cloth diapers.  And with the craziness of moving, figuring out the roles of parenting and Cooper, and Cooper not napping, this was one of the last things on our mind.  But when we went down to San Diego to visit the Woelke's, who cloth diaper, showed us how easy it is with cloth diapering that we decided to take the plunge and start cloth diapering.

We aren't doing the prefolds that I grew up on.  Instead we are doing all in one cloth diapers that look like regular diapers that have an absorbent liner in them that is removable and washable.  I will be doing the laundry for these diapers.  We ordered 18 diapers which is what Lindsey and Jake recommended.  They say this will require us to do laundry every 3 days.  They said if we wait any longer, it gets really stinky and nasty.  We will still use disposables at night and with traveling.

But we are very excited to start cloth diapering as we felt we were just throwing money down the drain for diapers and it was very bad for the environment.  It was a little costly up front, but definitely worth it.  We calculated out the cost that for how much we spent on the 18 cloth diapers, that this was the cost for 5 months worth of diapers.  CRAZY!!!! Especially since Cooper will be in diapers for a while!!!

Here are the diapers we went with.  They are called Bumgenius 4.0.  They are one size fits all.  They fit from 11 lbs to 35 lbs.  They have various placements of snaps and are adjustable.  Cooper can be in these until he is potty trained.
